Footage of Australian sheep tethered by a leg and flailing before their throats were cut and others left alive staggering with knife wounds in Turkish abattoirs has been aired by activists.
Animals Australia filmed cows, in an abattoir where Australian cattle are slaughtered, strung up by a leg, writhing, with their throats only partially slit.
Video Clip: Turkish Abbatoirs Live Export Cruelty Footage | News.com.auLyn White recorded the images in one of Turkey‘s largest cities in late July and earlier this month and released footage at parliament house this morning.
One sheep’s neck was simply stabbed at by an abattoir worker at a facility which did pass Australian export standards because its animals are not tethered by the leg and strung up alive.
Sheep were left crouching on metal runners, slowly bleeding to death.
Another sheep, unable to stand on its front legs, was grabbed by a worker and tied by its back leg to be put on a conveyor belt to slaughter workers.

However, despite the graphic cruelty on display, it is quite clear many – perhaps the majority – of Australians, simply don’t care:

Here we go again. Banning exports won’t change stop this from happening, all it does is ruin farming businesses. If you bleeding hearts really wanted this to stop, you would rally in the streets of Turkey and Indonesia and try to change attitudes there. Banning live exports hurts us, not them. Secondly, cast your mind back to the recent live export cattle ban and note now that many of these so-called “saved” animals are dying of starvation on farms because there is nothing to feed them. Wonderful outcome I’d say…

I don’t see what the problem is and why everyone has to be so ‘PC’ about the killing sheep to put on a plate.

Great, lets kill another Australian industry by banning exports too. Thinking about it, we should just ban the meat industry all together as it’s cruel, the mining industry while we are at it and anything else which can be considered cruel or environmentally unfriendly. Oh wait, no jobs or income left to sustain the country? Well I guess the Greens policy just failed!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much more damage does Labor want to do to Australia? Banning live cattle export was the first step, banning live sheep export will ruin so many more farmers and will cut millions from the Australian economy.

Why are these “activists” whingeing and moaning to Australia?? The sheep and cattle have been sold to the countries involved and are therefore their problem. Why don’t they take their complaints to those countries who are mistreating the animals??? ANSWER- they don’t have the intestinal fortitude to do so. Like all serial moaners, they pick the soft targets and would never dare to direct the complaints to those who are considered hard targets. What they should do is go to Turkey, Indonesia and the other countries and try to get the animals treated humanely. You would at least earn a little respect maybe!!

I would be very skeptical about the videos, as after all, it is innate to know that harming an animal is bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if people were paid to do this. And finally, we were no better 100-200 years ago, these third world and developing countries are simply behind. Why not spend money helping the countries raped by the West to not only educate against animal cruetly but to help their quality of life.

There are worse things in the world, like the starving AFRICANS.

Meh, they are animals. I enjoy eating them no matter how they have been killed. Let’s concentrate on real issues that actually affect humans, like the food crisis in Africa and finding a cure for diseases like Diabetes, Cancer AIDS etc. Seriously people, get your priorities in order!
I encourage you to have your say below, regardless of your stance. I’m sure if sheep could type, they’d want their opinion herd. (Sorry, had to do it)
